Community

Thomas Global’s contribution to the community began when the company was founded and has continued year after year as we help charities to raise funds, develop leaders and build stronger teams

Our vision is to make a meaningful difference to the communities in which we operate.  Thomas Global gives in many ways – by giving our team members time to support the causes they believe in, by donating time to our charitable partners and by donating money to charities. Our partners include:

  • Stepping Stone House
  • Royal Flying Doctor Service
  • Young Endeavour Youth Scheme

Stepping Stone House

Through practical investments and employee engagement, Thomas Global and its employees support Stepping Stone House and programs like it that have the same objectives, create real value and help build stronger communities in Australia and worldwide.

Stepping Stone House is a ‘Medium to Long Term out of Home Care Residential Care Service’ for 14-24 year olds of mixed gender who are generally referred from Community Services, Juvenile Justice, crisis accommodation services and sometimes self-referred. For many of these young people, their lives have been turbulent and disrupted, and they have possibly never experienced a stable, safe and secure living arrangement. Stepping Stone House has the opportunity to provide just that.

Stepping Stone House aims to empower its young people with resilience, self esteem, self confidence, good health, education and motivational experiences and to give them diverse activities and outdoor education experiences, so that they will feel comfortable returning to mainstream society as an independent and valid member of their local community.

Stepping Stone House gives young people a safe environment, where the staff can interact and engage them and work towards building meaningful, therapeutic and non-judgmental relationships.  The house assists these young people in meeting their primary needs for food, water, shelter and safety. From the creation of such a relationship, it is possible for the staff to assist young people to identify, understand and acknowledge secondary needs such as understanding why they have been taken into care, reasons they cannot live at home, emotional support, understanding their behaviors, health, education, belonging and connectedness, social relationships, learning new skills, participating in new experiences and gaining access to resources in a supporting and nurturing holistic learning environment.

Young Endeavour Youth Scheme

The Young Endeavour Youth Development program is internationally recognized in the field of sail training.  The experiential program is delivered on board STS Young Endeavour by Royal Australian Navy personnel specifically selected for the program.  Over the course of eleven days, youth aged 16-23 learn the skills required to sail a tall ship.  At the same time they develop attributes that make them more effective leaders, communicators and team members.

The tall ship environment provides a unique and powerful opportunity in which to conduct outdoor education.  Youth crew are taken out of their comfort zones and provided the tools to overcome challenges.  The immersive nature of the program encourages youth to rapidly develop interpersonal, leadership and teamwork skills, which are transferable to everyday life and career settings.  The program is also designed to elicit an appreciation of the strength diversity brings and instill a desire to contribute back to the community, increasing both individual and social capital.
