Director, Business Development, Defence Australia

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly driven sales and business development professional who can utilise their solid background and stakeholder networks in the defence, defence industry or CASG communities to identify and qualify new business opportunities within our Australian Defence Business Unit. This is a sales and partnership building role, directly accountable for Australian defence sales and strategy, positive business results and the execution of key business development initiatives.

Critical to this role is commercial acumen, a passion for the defence industry and an ability to influence and grow long-term relationships and partnerships, applying an entrepreneurial and creative mindset.

 Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Develop, identify, track, assess and qualify new business opportunities.
  • Develop strategies and tactics for profitable sales growth consistent with our strategic plan.
  • Manage bids and proposals using our Lead to Award processes.
  • Market new technologies and grow existing business.
  • Develop, manage and participate in win strategies and negotiation of business agreements.
  • Research, analyze, and monitor the Australian defence market to determine product/technology requirements, competitive position, and industry trends.
  • Support marketing, business development, and communication initiatives and strategies.
  • Provide marketing support and customer feedback/perception to Program Management during the execution of programs.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with customers, strategic partners, suppliers, and tactical system manufacturers.
  • Develop and manage the Strategy and Business Development budget and Bids and Proposal budget.

To be successful, you will need to be an Australian Citizen, eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven track record, at least 10 years, in a Strategic Sales and/or BDM position
    • Candidates with a solid technical background in defence with the desire to move into a Business Development / commercial role will also be considered.
  • Solid background with the Defence, Defence industry or CASG communities and be well networked with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstratable experience in developing strategic business plans and sales pipelines
  • Understanding of international and domestic export restrictions and approval processes
  • Thorough knowledge of market changes and forces that can influence the Company
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong business and commercial acumen and customer interaction experience

Program Director, Defence

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly motivated, organised, skilled leader with previous experience managing large-scale defence program/s to take on our Australian portfolio of programs. The primary focus for this role is to lead the team to ensure every program is delivered successfully and to add the highest possible value to the organization.

Critical to this role’s success, is commercial acumen, leadership skills, program management experience, a background in the defence industry and the application of an entrepreneurial and creative mindset.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Initiate and set goals for program/s according to the business strategic objectives
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective defense customers
  • Develop an effective plan of action for running our programs from inception to completion
  • Manage daily operations that support and implement current program objectives
  • Strategically map out program schedules and timelines and ensure they’re adhered to
  • Oversee, mentor and advise program teams in various tasks
  • Evaluate the skill, experience and professional development needs of the team (addressing employee experience and skill gaps)
  • Supervise all program and project managers involved to provide feedback and resolve complex problems throughout program execution
  • Suggest innovative plans and processes to improve program functions
  • Develop work systems and processes that effectively drive productivity and people
  • Apply change, risk and resource management principles when needed
  • Read reports prepared by team leads to determine progress and issues
  • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to code, legal guidelines, internal policies and defense specifications
  • Keep senior management informed with details and accurate reports or presentations.
  • Provide strategic vision and strong leadership while directing our programs

  • Working knowledge of JIRA (or equivalent program management software)
  • Business acumen with strategic ability
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • An analytical mindset with great problem-solving ability
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Bachelor/Masters in engineering, Management, or related field
