Thomas Global Secures EASA Approval for Boeing 737 Plug-and-Play CRT-to-LCD Flight Display Upgrade

IRVINE, California and SYDNEY, Australia: Thomas Global Systems has received European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval for its TFD-7000 Series plug-and-play LCD flight displays for Boeing 737 cathode ray tube (CRT) equipped aircraft.

This latest certification follows EASA approvals for the TFD-7000 Series for Boeing 757-200/300 and 767-200/300 aircraft in April, and earlier approvals from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) and the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB).

The TFD-7000 retrofit captures all the benefits of LCD technology in a proven, drop-in solution with added functionality and growth capacity for emerging airspace requirements while avoiding a major flight deck modification with its associated aircraft downtime and crew retraining costs.

“We are delighted to have EASA approvals in place to make our TFD-7000 Series displays available to Boeing 737 Classic operators in Europe”, said David Barnes, Thomas Global’s COO. “The TFD-7000 delivers high-performance AMLCD technology with a platform for growth in a practical and efficient plug-and-play design, enabling operators, and now those in Europe, to cost-effectively address CRT obsolescence, reduce costs, and improve reliability for their Boeing 737 CRT-equipped flight decks.”

The TFD-7076/7066 plug-and-play LCD solution replaces legacy Collins Aerospace EDU-776/766 CRT displays currently installed on Boeing 757, 767, and 737 Classic flight decks. Its inventive plug-and-play design means displays are both interchangeable and intermixable with the existing legacy EDU-776/766 CRT displays, are installable on overnights or at the gate, and require no flight or maintenance crew retraining.

With EASA, FAA and Transport Canada B757/767 and 737 STC approvals achieved, Thomas Global is proceeding with regulatory validation of the TFD-7000 with additional foreign regulators.
